I can vote! Participation of non-Luxembourg residents in the communal elections of June 11, 2023

My voice, my choice for the future
of my community!
Participation of non-Luxembourg residents in the communal elections of June 11, 2023

A new electoral law allows non-Luxembourgers to register on the electoral roll as soon as they arrive in the municipality and to actively participate in local political life.

Thanks to a change in the electoral law, all non-Luxembourgers who are 18 years old on election day will have the opportunity to vote on June 11, 2023, without any residence restrictions. From now until April 17, 2023 at 5 p.m., they can register on the electoral lists via guichet.lu or directly in the municipality.

In order to raise awareness among non-Luxembourg citizens and to motivate them to participate in the municipal elections, the “I can vote” campaign was launched. It is divided into 2 steps. The first step is to make people aware of the competences and responsibilities of their commune: What does my commune do for me? What are its skills? Why is it important to participate and vote at the communal level? Then there is the registration itself and how to vote in Luxembourg: How to register online and with the local administration? How to vote in a commune with a relative majority system? How do I vote in a municipality with a list system and proportional representation? A website dedicated to the political participation of non-Luxembourgers www.jepeuxvoter.lu is updated according to the actions carried out by the Ministry and its partners.

Do not hesitate to participate and to initiate your relatives, friends and neighbors to do the same, to participate in one of the activities organized in your community or across the country.

Let’s participate in the elections to make our voice heard in communal political decisions! My voice, my choice! You decide the future of your community on June 11, 2023!
