Renovation work on Place des Villes Jumelées will begin to provide residents and visitors with an exceptional, welcoming, and eco-friendly gathering place.
The “sponge city” principle is an innovative urban planning concept in which rainwater is not drained away through sewer systems but is stored locally. By reducing soil imperviousness and utilizing underground cavities, the city absorbs water like a sponge and releases it through evaporation during periods of extreme heat.
Eight existing trees will be relocated and 24 new ones will be planted to provide sufficient shade for this newly landscaped plaza, along with a number of perennials.
